At the initiative of the High Commission of Maldives in Bangladesh, Maldives Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and Special Envoy of the President of Maldives Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed met with BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman.
During the meeting, Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed, on behalf of the President of Maldives Dr. Mohammed Muizzoo and the people of Maldives, expressed deep shock and condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
In response, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude for the sympathy of the Maldivian government. He personally and on behalf of his family, sincerely thanked the President of Maldives Dr. Mohammed Muizzoo and the people of Maldives for standing by her during this difficult time.
As part of the meeting, a wreath was laid in memory of the late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
During his visit to Bangladesh, Maldivian Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed met and exchanged views with senior government officials of Bangladesh. He also held meetings with the visiting Foreign Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan and India and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Regional cooperation, issues of mutual interest and various aspects of strengthening South Asian relations were discussed in these meetings.
