‘Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2’ will be launched immediately to ensure peaceful environment in national elections, control law and order situation and suppress fascist terrorists, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.).
The advisor made this statement while briefing journalists after the meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Saturday (December 13, 2025) afternoon.
The advisor said that the operation of the law and order forces to recover looted and illegal weapons is ongoing. In order to further strengthen and accelerate it and to suppress fascist terrorists, the Core Committee has decided to launch ‘Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2’ immediately.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that the current interim government is determined to ensure the safety of the frontline fighters of the July Uprising. The government has taken special security measures for them. A committee has also been formed for this. The committee will review the overall issue and ensure the safety of the July Uprising fighters.
The Home Affairs Advisor said that the current interim government, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, deeply regrets the attack on Osman Hadi, a frontline fighter of the July Uprising, and the government is taking the matter with utmost importance. He said that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to arrest those involved in this incident without delay. No one involved in this attack will be given any kind of concession. The Advisor sought the general cooperation of the people in this regard and expressed hope that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice as soon as possible.
The advisor said that the attack on Osman Hadi is an attempt to disrupt the upcoming parliamentary elections. He expressed his firm belief that any attempt to disrupt or sabotage the parliamentary elections will be dealt with firmly by the interim government. He said that if anyone can identify those involved in the shooting of Osman Hadi, a reward of Tk 50 lakh has been announced by the government. The advisor requested everyone to pray for Osman Hadi’s speedy recovery.
The advisor also said that until now, firearms licenses were only issued to military and civilian employees. He said that now, among the candidates for the national elections, those who want firearms licenses will also be issued licenses.
Responding to a question from journalists regarding what steps will be taken for the security of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman when he returns to the country, the advisor said that the government has made all kinds of preparations for Tarique Rahman’s security and his maximum security will be ensured.
Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Home Affairs Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani, IGP Baharul Alam BPM and others were present at the briefing.
