Trade Adviser Invites Thai Investment in Promising Sectors like Pharmaceuticals, Shrimp, and Furniture

Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Thitiporn Chirasawadi met with Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin.

The meeting was held in the Trade Adviser’s office room at the Secretariat this Sunday (7 December 2025) afternoon.

The meeting emphasized further expansion of existing trade relations between the two countries and effective utilization of shipping facilities.

Stating that the Bangladesh government is creating golden opportunities for foreign investors, Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that Thai investors can invest in Bangladesh’s medicine, shrimp, furniture and tourism industries by utilizing this facility. Such investments will create opportunities for both countries to benefit.

Expressing their commitment to work together to strengthen logistics connectivity through sea and maritime transport to increase trade and investment between the two countries, the Trade Advisor said that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will help increase trade volume between the two countries.

The Thai Ambassador emphasized the importance of launching the first-ever maritime trade route between Ranong Port and Chittagong Port as well as concluding the Thailand-Bangladesh Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The Thai Ambassador said that trade between the two countries using the Ranong Sea Port in the western part of the country will reduce trade costs and time between the two countries. He also expressed hope that such infrastructural connectivity will play an important role in increasing trade and investment between Bangladesh and Thailand.

Thitiporn Chirasawadi also said that it takes 14-15 days for goods to reach Bangladesh from Thailand under the existing shipping system. If the western waterway route of Thailand is used, the goods will reach Chittagong Port in 4-7 days. Similarly, cargo ships from Chittagong Port will be able to reach ports of neighboring countries including Thailand.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Export) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and Minister Counselor of the Thai Embassy were present at the meeting.
