World Soil Day 2025 was observed today, Friday, with the global theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.” To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly organized a seminar focusing on the role of soil in transforming Bangladesh’s agriculture. The event was held at the Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) under the Ministry of Agriculture.

Md. Abu Zubair Hossain Bablu, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Jiaoqun Shi, FAO Representative in Bangladesh, was present as the Special Guest.

Speakers at the seminar emphasized that healthy soil is essential for ensuring sustainable food security and boosting agricultural productivity. They highlighted the need for stronger coordination between government initiatives and scientific research to prevent soil degradation and safeguard soil health amid rapid urbanization.
Experts, researchers, policymakers, and relevant stakeholders participated in the seminar organized in observance of World Soil Day 2025.
