Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has said that sugar will not be imported from outside if domestically produced sugar is stored in warehouses.
He said that it is possible to transform sugar mills into profitable enterprises by modernizing sugar mills, inventing improved varieties, modern farming methods, diversifying products and establishing good governance.

Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said this at the inauguration ceremony of the 88th sugarcane threshing plant of Keru & Company (Bangladesh) Limited located in Darshana on Friday (December 05, 2025) afternoon.
The Industry Adviser also said that Keru & Company is a traditional state-owned industrial enterprise of Bangladesh, which has been contributing to the national economy by producing various products including sugar, spirit, vinegar, organic fertilizer.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony of the sugarcane threshing season were Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Chairman (Additional Secretary) Rashidul Hasan; Khulna Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, PPM; Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain; Police Superintendent Mohammad Monirul Islam, Mill Managing Director Rabbik Hasan, sugarcane farmers, mill officials and representatives of labor organizations.

In his speech as a special guest, Khulna Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque called on sugarcane farmers and workers to ‘turn Keru into a bigger institution, how to increase Keru production’.
This sugar mill has set a target of producing 4,256 metric tons of sugar by threshing 76,000 metric tons of sugarcane in the current (2025-2026) threshing season. The best sugarcane farmers were awarded honorary crests at the ceremony.
