RAJUK and JICA jointly organize 4th Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Seminar in Dhaka

The 4th Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Seminar jointly organized by RAJUK and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held with the aim of developing integrated planning along Dhaka’s MRT corridor. The seminar was attended by relevant government agencies, experts and planners.

JICA’s expert team, led by Ms. Nozomi Hishida, presented the main outputs at the seminar. These include the approved TOD guidelines, draft ‘Right Conversion Rules’ for land rights realignment, and the Integrated Development Proposal for Gabtoli South. The plan includes a multimodal hub, flood-tolerant land uses and mixed-use development.

Special guest Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized the importance of smart public transport as well as the need to protect open spaces in her commemorative speech. JICA Chief Representative Mr. Ichiguchi noted, “This seminar is a milestone in making Dhaka a city that breathes, moves and thrives.”

The participating ministries, Dhaka City Corporation, RAJUK, DMTCL and JICA teams agreed that it is possible to transform Dhaka into a more livable and connected city through transport-centric and environmentally conscious planning.
