Algeria To Host International Conference On Crimes Of Colonialism In Africa

Algeria is hosting an international conference on the criminalization of colonial crimes in Africa on November 30 and December 1, 2025, under the high patronage of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

This continental event is being held in light of Resolution 903 of the African Union Assembly, where, as part of the implementation of the 2025 theme—“Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”—there will be an in-depth discussion on the process of internationally recognizing atrocities, exploitation and human rights violations committed throughout Africa during the colonial era as crimes.

As a country that paid a heavy price in the struggle for independence, Algeria has long maintained a steadfast position on the issue of the dignity, preservation of memory and justice for the African people, and this large international conference has been organized out of that sense of historical responsibility.

The two-day conference, which is bringing together ministers, policymakers, historians, legal experts and representatives of human rights organizations from across Africa, will focus on formal documentation of colonial crimes, frameworks for ensuring justice for affected populations, possible methods of reparations and ways to build just international relations for future generations.
