No reason to panic over Sheikh Hasina’s verdict: Home Affairs Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said that there is no reason to panic over Sheikh Hasina’s verdict.

The Adviser said this while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (November 17, 2025) afternoon.

The Adviser said, I do not see any kind of panic. We have been moving around all day. We are going here and there. He said, there is no panic on the roads either. We are coming and going by road. He also said, one or two minor incidents are happening. Small cocktail explosions are taking place. However, those who are causing these incidents are also being caught. He sought the cooperation of everyone, including journalists, to prevent these incidents.

In response to a question from reporters about the order to shoot on sight, the advisor said, no order to shoot on sight was given. Self-defense was mentioned. He said, just as various firearms are licensed for self-defense, not for shooting anyone. The same has been said here too.

In response to journalists’ questions regarding bringing Sheikh Hasina back to the country, the Home Affairs Adviser said, “We definitely want her return. A letter has already been sent to India through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard. If necessary, a new letter will be sent regarding her return.

At the briefing, Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on the Ministry of Home Affairs, said that every citizen has the right to self-defense. He said, if someone comes to beat you or kill you, you have the right to resist the attacker. This has always been the case in all countries, it did not happen immediately in our country.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani, among others, were present at the time.
