There is no alternative to the elected government to overcome the crisis in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector: BTMA President

A discussion meeting titled “Current Crisis in Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment Sector and Path to Recovery” was held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, organized by the Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA). The meeting, chaired by BGBA President Mohammad Pavel, saw an important exchange of views on the overall challenges and prospects of the country’s ready-made garment industry.

Former Commerce Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the meeting. Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Shawkat Aziz Russell was present as a special guest.

In his speech, BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell said, “Domestic industry and trade are currently under serious threat. We dream of exporting goods worth $50-100 billion, but no one concerned is showing any responsibility to solve the problems arising in trade and trade.”

He mentioned that various complex problems including gas crisis, high interest rates of banks are disrupting the country’s industrial sector. In the discussion, he further said, “The government does not have any specific information or roadmap to resolve these crises. The recent fire at the international airport has greatly damaged the image of the country; as much as there is visible damage, the invisible damage is even greater.”

He emphasized, “There is no alternative to the government’s sincerity to overcome the impact of this extreme business loss. It is impossible to create a business-friendly environment without a government of an elected political party.”

Representatives of various manufacturing and export-oriented sectors including BGMEA, BKMES were present at the discussion meeting and all of them called for taking coordinated initiatives to resolve the crisis in the industrial sector.
