Begum Khaleda Zia to contest three elections in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election

BNP Chairperson and three-time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will contest as a candidate in three important seats in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. She will contest from Feni-1, Dinajpur-3 and Bogra-7 seats, the party has announced.

According to the announcement of the interim government, the national election is scheduled to be held in February next year. As part of the election preparations, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has started publishing the primary list of candidates.

The list was announced by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan in the capital on Monday (November 3) evening. Earlier, the list of primary candidates was finalized in a meeting of the party’s standing committee led by acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

At the press conference, BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain were present.

Begum Khaleda Zia, one of the main political leaders of Bangladesh, is not only a three-time Prime Minister; she is a symbol of strong leadership in the struggle to restore democracy and establish political rights in this country. Although her political journey began as the wife of the great independence war proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, she has become the center of democratic politics through her wisdom, determination, sacrifice and uncompromising role.

Along with domestic politics, her presence was strong in the international arena. She played an important role in strengthening bilateral relations with various important countries of the world including the United States, the United Kingdom, China, India and Japan. Her contribution in activating SAARC to strengthen regional cooperation further strengthens Bangladesh’s diplomatic position.

Her contesting from three seats in the upcoming national elections has sparked new political discussions. Party leaders and activists hope that Begum Zia’s participation will create new enthusiasm for the BNP in the electoral arena.
