Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Women’s Division Organizes Breast Cancer Awareness Camp

In continuation of celebrating October as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month worldwide, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Women’s Division has organized a nationwide Breast Cancer Awareness Camp “I am a winner, daughter-daughter-mother – I will defeat breast cancer in my hands”.

The camp was inaugurated by the chief guest, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He said, “Allah Almighty has sent people for the welfare of humanity. Such awareness initiatives are timely and deserve praise.” He thanked the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Women’s Division and expressed gratitude to the nominated candidate of Dhaka-17 constituency, Dr. Khaleduzzaman, for his cooperation.

Dr. S. S. Khaliduzzaman, nominated MP candidate of Dhaka-17 constituency, also spoke at the program. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mahila Division, Principal Nurunnisa Siddika, Secretary, Women’s Division, highlighted the importance of awareness about breast cancer. She said, “It is very important to do breast tests on your own once a month to prevent breast cancer. Many women in our country still delay seeking treatment due to shame and ignorance. To overcome this problem, the Women’s Division has released an animated video so that women can learn the test method at home. There are plans to include it in the national policy in the future.”

Dr. Habiba Chowdhury Sweet, Professor and Head of Department, Radiology and Imaging Department, Ibn Sina Medical College said, “A large number of women in Bangladesh are affected by breast cancer every year. In 2022 alone, about 13,000 women were affected by breast cancer. Therefore, this camp has been organized to increase awareness.”

Women participating in the camp can learn the ‘self-breast test’ method directly from doctors. In addition, free doctor counseling, breast cancer awareness wrist bands, wish cards with QR codes and care cards for loved ones were provided to the participants. At the end, women expressed their solidarity with the camp through pledged cards.

Also present at the event were Dr. Nurunnahar Khanam Mishu (Assistant Professor, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Ibn Sina Medical College), Dr. Samia Mubin (Professor, Department of Surgical Oncology, BMU), Professor Dr. Naima Moazem (Former Head of Department, Department of Microbiology, Dhaka Medical College) and Advocate Sabikunnahar Munni, Human Resource Development Department, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
