Chief Adviser orders rapid procurement of body-worn cameras to ensure transparency in elections

In order to keep the upcoming national elections transparent, peaceful and safe, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government, has ordered the rapid procurement of a sufficient number of body-worn cameras for law enforcement agencies.

He gave this instruction at a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday (October 28, 2025).

The meeting was attended by Home Affairs Advisor Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fayez Ahmed Tayyab, Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and representatives of various concerned agencies.

The Chief Adviser said, “All possible preparations must be completed quickly to organize fair and peaceful elections. Such confidence must be created among the voters that they feel that there is a favorable and safe environment for the elections.”

He directed that the body-worn camera procurement process and necessary training activities must be completed by December so that violence or unwanted situations during the election period can be effectively prevented.

Professor Yunus also said, “In addition to increasing the capacity of law enforcement to prevent any untoward incident related to the election, a framework must be developed where no one gets any opportunity to deteriorate the situation.”

At the meeting, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab said that the initial training program for police members has started using the body-worn cameras currently in stock in the country.

Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that once the new cameras arrive, training will be provided to police members in each district.

He also said that with the help of body-worn cameras, it will be possible to monitor the situation at polling stations during the election centrally, as well as from the offices of each police station and district police superintendent.
