Chief Adviser’s role important to avoid conflict: Information Adviser

Speaking at the national dialogue titled ‘Shrine Culture: Violence, Crisis and Future Thinking’ held in the capital on Saturday (October 25, 2025), Information Adviser Mahfuz Alam said that the role of the Chief Adviser is very important to avoid conflict in the country at present. Because of his position, many are not getting involved in conflict now, although many are still ready for political tension.

He said, “Whenever the government changes, everything from the imam of the mosque to the chairman of the Islamic Foundation changes. This calls into question the stability and impartiality of our religious institutions.”

Mahfuz Alam also said that the past political leadership did not take much initiative to unite the Muslim community; rather, some are Sunni, some are Qaumi. “Many want to bring Islam to the center of state politics, but they do not deeply understand the history of the Islamic tradition and Sufi culture of this region,” he added.

The information advisor said that the Awami League developed a relationship with Sufism to protect its political position, and within this connection, religion-based politics eventually became limited. He commented that this trend has also been seen in Qaumi politics.
