Government has decided to increases house rent for MPO teachers by 15 percent, will be effective in two phases

The government has decided to increase the house rent allowance of MPO teachers and employees working in private educational institutions by 15 percent.

This information was given in a letter from the Finance Ministry on Tuesday (October 21, 2025). The letter said that the Finance Department has given its consent to increase the house rent allowance of MPO teachers and employees working in private educational institutions.

Considering the existing budget constraints of the government, the house rent allowance has been fixed at 7.5 percent of the basic salary (minimum 2,000 taka) from November 1, 2025 and at a total rate of 15 percent (minimum 2,000 taka) with an additional 7.5 percent from July 1, 2026.

In this regard, Education Advisor CR Abrar said, “Today is a historic moment for the Education Department in fulfilling the long-standing demands of teachers and employees. I consider myself fortunate to be able to ensure the fair share of the teaching community.”

He added, “The path to implementing this decision was not easy. Despite various disagreements, controversies and challenges, the Ministry of Education has responsibly worked towards a fair and sustainable solution.”
