Dr. M. A. Quayum, Secretary for Small and Microcredit Affairs of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), shared a video message on his Facebook page on Saturday, 19 October 2025, in which he declared, “I am committed to transforming the Dhaka-11 constituency into a modern and well-planned residential area.”
Reflecting on his childhood and upbringing, he said, “My father worked at a sugar mill in Joypurhat. Before independence, he came to Dhaka when the jute mill, sugar mill, and textile mill operated together. Later, when they separated, he joined the jute mill. We started living in Badda, which at that time was a problematic area with no gas, water, or electricity since 1962.”
He added, “In 1991, when Begum Khaleda Zia contested elections from our area, we informed her about the issues in Khilkhet and Rampura. After coming to power, she released 1,385 acres of land in Badda and ensured the provision of gas, water, and electricity for the area.”
Dr. Quayum also stated, “In 1994, following strong encouragement from local residents, I ran for the position of commissioner and won. Subsequently, I established Badda High School through RAJUK, built two mosques, and constructed the Badda-Gulshan Link Road. During these projects, no one was harmed; in fact, everyone received two kathas of land near Gulshan Lake.”
He emphasized, “When you work for the people, they return the favor. I have never intentionally caused harm to anyone. This is not my pride; it is Allah’s blessing. My party workers are my true asset, and it is thanks to their support and loyalty that I became a leader.”
Addressing party workers, Dr. Quayum said, “We have been freed from an autocratic rule, and we must be grateful to Allah. We must ensure that ordinary citizens and students are never harmed by our actions. As long as the people are with us, we will continue to serve. We must follow the directives of the party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman.”
He further added, “If BNP comes to power, people should not feel that it is similar to the Awami League. Keeping in mind the struggles of the past 17 years, we must practice politics for the people and for the country.”
