The government is starting a nationwide vaccination campaign from October 12 to prevent the outbreak of typhoid fever in Bangladesh. In this initiative, children will be given free typhoid vaccination under the EPI program.
District Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuen Khisa informed reporters at a press briefing held at the conference room of the Department of Health on Monday (October 6).
All students under the age of 15 studying in all educational institutions in the country will be given typhoid vaccination at their respective educational institutions and children under the age of 9 months and under the age of 15 outside educational institutions will be given typhoid vaccination at the existing EPI permanent and temporary vaccination centers.
The Civil Surgeon said that typhoid fever is a preventable infectious disease. The government has taken the initiative to provide free typhoid vaccination to protect children. This program will be implemented across the country from October 12.
He further said that this vaccine approved by the World Health Organization is safe and effective. This government campaign will not only save the lives of children, but will also make a significant contribution to reducing typhoid-related illnesses and mortality in the long term.
The vaccination period for the typhoid campaign is a total of 18 working days from 12-13 November 2025. Out of this, the 1st week (12-30 October): Campaign in educational institutions and permanent vaccination centers (any 10 working days) and the next 2 weeks (01-13 November): Campaign in the community (campaign in regular and permanent vaccination centers in rural and urban areas) (any 8 working days).
The total target for typhoid vaccination in the district has been set at 1,54,749 children. Out of this, the target in educational institutions is 1,11,941 and the target outside educational institutions is 42,803 children. The number of vaccination centers in educational institutions in Rangamati district is 1,249 and the number of permanent vaccination centers is 1,222.
