Nepal PM resigns amid protests

KP Sharma Oli has resigned as Nepal’s Prime Minister after two days of widespread protests and violence. The matter was confirmed in a statement from his secretariat on Tuesday (September 9).

In his resignation letter addressed to the President, he wrote – ‘I was appointed as the Prime Minister on July 15, 2024, under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. Considering the current extraordinary situation in the country – to provide a constitutional political solution and to provide solutions to the problems – I am resigning from the post of Prime Minister with effect from today, under Article 77 (1) of the Constitution.’
