Philippine Ambassador Calls for Strengthening Bangladesh-Philippines Ties in Energy, Agriculture, and Education

The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a country lecture titled “Beyond Bilateral Ties: Unlocking New Avenue in Bangladesh-Philippines Cooperation” in the capital on Sunday (August 31, 2025). Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P. Cainglet was the chief guest speaker at the event and delivered the keynote address.

At the beginning of the event, BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, AWC, AFWC, PSC, PEng, delivered the welcome address. Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, delivered the opening remarks. The session was moderated by former Acting Foreign Secretary and Diplomatic Ambassador Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique.

Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, in his discussion, highlighted the historical relations between Bangladesh and the Philippines and emphasized the need to open new horizons in trade, investment, people-to-people contacts and maritime cooperation. He stressed the importance of expanding diplomatic and economic relations in the changing geopolitical realities of the Indo-Pacific region.

Ambassador Nina P. Cainglet, in her keynote address, highlighted the shared values ​​and development priorities of the two countries and mentioned the potential for greater cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture and education. She said that regional peace, prosperity and sustainable growth can be ensured through increased bilateral engagement.

Senior government officials, diplomats, academics, media representatives, researchers and students participated in the open discussion. They shared their views and recommendations on deepening Bangladesh-Philippines relations.
