The Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka celebrated the 81st anniversary of ‘Myanmar Armed Forces Day’ with a grand ceremony at a prestigious hotel in the capital on Monday (30 March 2026).

Myanmar’s Military, Naval and Air Attaché Brigadier General Zaw Man Phyo delivered the welcome address at the event. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the guests present and said that this day, celebrated on 27 March, is a symbol of Myanmar’s independence, patriotism and national sovereignty. He said that the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces) has been playing an important role in the country’s democratic progress, stability and development.

Brigadier General Zaw Man Phyo, in his speech, highlighted the goals and activities of the Tatmadaw and said that maintaining the democratic process in light of the constitution, ensuring national unity and development, and increasing military capabilities based on modern technology are their main priorities.

He said that the journey of the Myanmar Armed Forces began in 1945 during the Second World War during the struggle for independence and since then they have been playing an important role in protecting the sovereignty of the country.

Regarding Bangladesh-Myanmar relations, the ambassador said, “Myanmar has been maintaining friendly relations as a neighboring country since the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. The two countries share about 168 miles of land and maritime border and we are committed to resolving various issues based on mutual respect and cooperation.”
