Desk Report:
From March 3 to April 1, 372,388 liters of illegally stored fuel oil were recovered in 4,824 operations across the country, said Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department Monir Hossain Chowdhury. He made this statement at a regular briefing on the energy situation organized at the Secretariat on Thursday (April 02, 2026).
Monir Hossain Chowdhury said that there is adequate stock of petrol and octane in the country. There is no crisis in diesel either. Currently, the government has 1 lakh 22 thousand 660 metric tons of deliverable diesel in stock. He also said that panic buying has not stopped yet, which is affecting the filling pumps. The trend of abnormal hoarding is also responsible for this. The supply of fuel oil is continuing as per the rules.
The Joint Secretary also said that the government has instructed the District Commissioners (DCs) to ensure the availability of diesel to farmers across the country. As usual, an online meeting was held with the Deputy Commissioners of 64 districts across the country today. The Energy Ministry informed the DCs that there is sufficient diesel stock and instructed them to take necessary measures to provide diesel to farmers across the country as per their demand.
The spokesperson expressed hope that after the government’s instructions, diesel will be ensured for farmers across the country and all farmers will get diesel as per their requirement. He requested the farmers to inform the local administration if there is any difficulty in getting diesel.
Monir Hossain Chowdhury also said that there will be no fuel crisis if the trend of hoarding is avoided. He said that this government is a people’s government. Therefore, the government did not increase the price of fuel oil without thinking about the people. He also said that the necessary gas will be supplied to the Power Division for electricity.
Earlier, in a meeting of senior officials of the Energy Ministry and energy marketing organizations Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud gave strict instructions to stop corruption and mismanagement in the supply system. Instructions were given to take all necessary measures, including launching a central digital control and monitoring dashboard to bring transparency and discipline in the supply system and prevent illegal hoarding. It was also warned that strict administrative action would be taken if irregularities were proven.
