The 18 km section of the first phase of Dhaka-Bypass Expressway has been officially launched. Today, Sunday (August 24, 2025) at 11 am, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, inaugurated this section.
The construction of this 48 km long expressway began in May 2022. About 80 percent of the work of the project, which extends from Bhogra Bypass to Madanpur, has already been completed. The goal is to hand over the entire expressway in June 2026 as per the schedule.

According to project sources, traffic has already started on the 18 km section that has already been completed. However, to ensure safety and smooth movement, CNG auto-rickshaws and motorcycles have been banned on the expressway. At the same time, there will be no U-turns in this section. Tolls have been determined according to the type of vehicle and partial toll collection has also started.
The expressway authority hopes that if this phase is launched, traffic congestion around the capital Dhaka will be eased to some extent. At the same time, goods transport will be faster, more affordable and more effective. This will reduce traffic congestion and increase economic growth. If the entire expressway is launched, it will play an important role as an alternative route for the northern part of the country and will also have a positive impact on the national economy.
Also present at the inauguration ceremony were Dhaka Division Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department Md. Ehsanul Haque, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, among others.
