A delegation led by Jean Pesme, Division Director of the World Bank for Bangladesh and Bhutan, called on Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid at the conference room of the Ministry of Agriculture on Sunday (March 29, 2026).
The Agriculture Minister welcomed the World Bank delegation and congratulated him on assuming office as a member of the cabinet.
The Minister said that an initiative has been taken to launch a ‘Krishak Card’ for farmers, which will be implemented across the country in phases. This program is being started in 11 blocks of different districts on a trial basis this year. It will be expanded across the country in phases. Through this card, the interests of farmers will be protected, production will increase and sustainable development of the agricultural sector will be ensured.
The World Bank representatives expressed their interest in increasing investment in the agricultural sector, especially in the supply of agricultural inputs, processing of agricultural products and cooperation in market development. The Minister welcomed the World Bank’s proposal.
In the meeting, the Ministry and the World Bank representatives expressed their hope to further strengthen mutual cooperation in the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and improving the living standards of farmers.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Rafiqul E. Mohammed, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Delwar Hossain, senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock and Food, Dina Umali-Deininger, Regional Director for Sustainable Development of the World Bank’s South Asia Region, and relevant persons.
