Desk Report:
State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin said that the great Independence and National Day is an unforgettable and glorious day in the life of the Bengali nation. Today is 55 years since we broke the chains of subjugation and declared our existence as an independent country in the world.
She said that along the path of that declaration, 3 million martyrs, countless mothers and sisters lost their dignity, and the struggle of heroic sons have achieved this green and gray Bangladesh. She said, we want to build a beautiful Bangladesh—a Bangladesh that will be safe for all children and women.
The State Minister said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the discussion, award ceremony and cultural program to celebrate the great Independence and National Day 2026 on March 26 at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday (March 26, 2026).
The State Minister said that girls should be made aware of what is a ‘bad touch’. We need to campaign on this issue. We all want to build a beautiful country for our children together.
She said, in addition to studying hard, we need to be educated by doing physical exercise, reading books, drawing pictures and learning manners. Only then will the country move forward.
She also said that we all need to raise our voices together to protect women from violence and rape.
Farzana Sharmin said that the Declaration of Independence included equality, human dignity and social justice – none of these three have been fully achieved; rather, various types of injustice have occurred. However, despite everything, we cannot be disappointed. Now everyone has to be sincere.
She called on everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to work together to build a just, self-reliant, safe and work-oriented Bangladesh for the present and future generations.
The event was chaired by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ms. Arzu Ara Begum. Additional Secretary Shabnam Mostari and child artists Zaima Tasrin and Raihan Mahmud spoke as special guests at the event.
Later, the State Minister presented crests and certificates to the winners of the painting competition organized on the occasion of Independence and National Day 2026 and enjoyed a cultural program performed by the children.
