US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on Opposition Leader of the Bangladesh National Parliament Md. Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting, held at the office of the Opposition Leader at the Parliament Building on Tuesday (June 9, 2026), resulted in fruitful discussions on various issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the United States.
The meeting was attended by the Embassy’s Political and Economic Counselor Eric Geelan and Political Officer Hermanoschy Bernard.
During the exchange of views, the political and economic situation of Bangladesh after the elections, the upcoming national budget, the prospects for expanding bilateral trade and investment, and various important aspects of Bangladesh-US relations were discussed.
The meeting also focused on the development of democratic institutions, establishment of good governance, increasing economic cooperation, and various regional and international contemporary issues.
In the discussion, both sides expressed their hope to further strengthen the existing relations between Bangladesh and the United States based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Quasem Arman, MP, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, and Ali Ahmed Mabrur, a member of the party’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Team.
