Unified Business Council Demands Reform and Immediate FBCCI Elections

The Unified Business Council has called for immediate reforms and elections within the FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry), criticizing the recent increase in VAT and taxes on over a hundred products. The council expressed concerns that implementing these decisions could severely impact the country’s economy, discouraging new investments from businesses.

They also highlighted that the rising costs of production due to increased gas and electricity prices have already placed businesses under significant strain. A delegation led by the council’s convener and former FBCCI vice-president, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed, met with FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman on Sunday (13 January, 2025) afternoon to present their demands.

The meeting was attended by the council’s joint convener Nizam Uddin Rajesh, former FBCCI directors Amir Hossain Noorani, Haji Abul Hashem, Syed Md. Bakhtiar Hossain, Ishakul Hossain Sweet, and other leaders.
