Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government is working to make Bangladesh a democratic, inclusive and exploitation-free state. Strengthening democratic institutions, restructuring the economy and improving the living standards of the people are the main goals of the current government.
He said these things while addressing the ‘Bengal Delta Conference-2026’ held at a hotel in the capital on Friday (July 24, 2026).
The main theme of this conference organized by the Dhaka Institute of Research and Analytics (DAIRA) was ‘Bangladesh and a Changing World: Uncharted Times, Emerging Orders, and the Politics of Care’.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Bangladesh is currently passing through an important juncture. The student-public movement, the desire to restore democracy, and the expectation of political change have opened the door to new possibilities for the country. The government is working to establish an accountable, participatory, and sustainable state system by utilizing this possibility.
He also said that there is no alternative to political stability, effective democratic institutions, and implementation of inclusive policies to sustain the country’s development.
The conference was attended by domestic and foreign researchers, policymakers, diplomats, development experts, business leaders, and representatives of civil society. Discussions were held in various sessions on the prospects, challenges, and future steps for Bangladesh in the changing global context.
