Diplomatic Desk:
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook said that a visit to Sylhet is always special for her. Sylhet has a unique and deep relationship with the UK, which has further strengthened the historical and diaspora bonds of the two countries.

Speaking at an iftar reception organized in Sylhet, she said, “When you come to Sylhet, you can clearly feel the depth of the relationship between the UK and Bangladesh. Cooperation between the two countries is gradually expanding in various priority areas, including trade and investment, climate resilience, education and migration.”

She also mentioned that Bangladesh is entering a new chapter and at this time the UK is keen to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh. She also expressed hope that the relations between the two countries will become more dynamic in the future by increasing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
It is worth noting that the Sylhet region is historically closely associated with the UK, especially due to the large British-Bangladeshi diaspora community. In this context, the Iftar event became an important occasion to strengthen diplomatic and social relations between the two countries.
