BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from Bogra-6 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Bogra, the birthplace of late President Ziaur Rahman, has been known as the ‘BNP base’ since the party’s inception.
On Monday (November 3, 2025), the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir read out the names of the candidates for the 237 constituencies at a press conference at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. It was announced there that Tarique Rahman will contest from Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency.
Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been contesting from Bogra-7 (Gabatoli and Shahjahanpur) constituency since 1991 and Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency since 1996 (June). She has never faced defeat in these two constituencies.
Before announcing the candidates, members of the BNP’s highest policy-making forum, the Standing Committee, held an emergency meeting at 12:30 pm. The meeting, which lasted for about five hours, was chaired by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who joined virtually from London. The meeting was held to finalize the party’s candidate for the upcoming national parliamentary elections and decide what to do in the current political situation.
