Syeda Rizwana Hasan urges to develop good habits for good health

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today called for good practice of the people as far as health issues are concern to build sound health of future generation.

She urged everybody to avoid carrying food in polythene bags and shunning use of plastic cups for hot drinks.

Rezwana was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Health Olympiad and Online Quiz Competition 2024 at Abdul Karim Sahityabisharad Auditorium of the Bangla Academy on Friday (18 October, 2024).

“People should develop the habit of wearing masks considering the prevailing environmental pollution. Additionally, healthy diet and adequate sleep are also essential,” she observed.

“If the habits can be changed, there will be no tension about diseases,” she added, saying, “It’s not possible to build a healthy nation keeping its citizens unhealthy.”

The event was arranged aimed at raising awareness about health issues among school students.

“Tuberculosis is no longer a major problem, but awareness on this issue is the key,” she said.

Competitions, like Health Olympiad, can play a crucial role in increasing health awareness among students, she said.

Editor of the daily Prathom Alo Matiur Rahman was in the chair while DG of health education Prof. Dr. Nazmul Hossain, Samina Chowdhury, team Leader of USAID, Dr. Tahmeed Ahmed, ED of ICDDR’B, Dr Md Jahangir Kabir, Programme Manager of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme and Saira Banu, Senior Scientist of ICDDR’B were present.

About 550 students from various educational institutions participated in the Health Olympiad jointly organised by ICDDR’B and Prothom Alo with the support of USAID.

Later, prizes, certificates and trophies were distributed among the winners.
