The Swiss Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Speaker at the Bangladesh National Parliament Building on Monday (June 22, 2026) morning. Swiss Ambassador Mr. Reto Reiling praised the role of the Speaker of the 13th National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram MP, in making the parliament effective by gaining the trust of the current democratically elected absolute majority government and the strong opposition.
This post-people’s uprising parliament will fulfill its term by gaining the trust of the people and embodying the aspirations of the people. The Speaker thanked Switzerland for its role as an EU member state in enhancing the capacity of the members of parliament. The Speaker called on Switzerland to stand by Bangladesh to strengthen democracy and democratic institutions in Bangladesh. The Speaker proposed to the Ambassador to form an inter-parliamentary team in the two countries and exchange experiences.
The Speaker sought the cooperation of the Swiss government in continuing development cooperation in Bangladesh, strengthening parliamentary activities between Bangladesh and Switzerland through the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and further strengthening relations with the people of the two countries through cultural exchanges.
The Swiss Ambassador expressed hope that both countries could benefit from the exchange of parliamentary experiences between the two countries, while continuing the ongoing cooperation of the Swiss government in humanitarian assistance, education, economic development, climate resilience and non-governmental development in Bangladesh.
