The Ministry of Youth and Sports has decided to set up sports villages or hubs in eight divisions of the country with the help of the United Arab Emirates.
Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan told reporters present after presenting the awards of a football tournament for underprivileged children at the National Stadium on Sunday (April 6, 2025) on the occasion of National and International Sports Day.
Asif Mahmud said, “We were thinking from the beginning that there should be a central place. Like a sports village. We have seen this in different countries. Countries that have done well in sports. China has this. Initially, discussions were going on with China. I informed Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Sir about this. When Sir went to the United Arab Emirates a few days ago, he discussed this issue. The UAE government has agreed to provide us with financial assistance.” Since we are planning to decentralize sports, it has been decided to set up eight sports hubs in eight divisions of the country. The ministry is working now. The ministry will make a more detailed plan and inform us how much financial assistance we will need. We hope to be able to start work in the next financial year.’
Except for cricket and shooting, all other federations in the country are in the national stadium area. Many of these do not have sports venues and federation offices.
Therefore, Asif Mahmud said about the plan to provide sports venues and federation offices, ‘There was a place of the National Sports Council in Gulshan that was occupied. There were some legal complications with that place, which we have resolved. We are working on whether we can arrange for offices or games for indoor sports federations there.’
