The seminar titled “Building a Climate-Resilient Bangladesh” emphasized the need to build a climate-resilient Bangladesh through integrated initiatives. The seminar was held at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital.
The seminar was jointly organized by Brotee Samaj Kallyan Sangstha and NIRAPAD Alliance.
The event was presided over by Brotee Foundation founder Sharmin S. Murshid. Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir was present as the chief guest.
Former MP Farida Akhter, Fauzia Karim Firoz, M. S. Siddiqui, environmental activist Sharif Jamil and other prominent figures also participated in the discussion.
Yudhishthir Chandra Biswas, Founder and Executive Director of the Youth Climate Action Network (YOUCAN), participated in the youth panel discussion of the seminar. He emphasized on accountability in climate governance, effective coordination between government-youth-stakeholders, and active inclusion of youth in policymaking rather than just symbolic participation.
He said that to ensure climate resilience, youth need to be institutionally involved in the policymaking process, not token participation.
In his speech, Chief Guest Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir emphasized on integrated planning, performance-based project approval, and strong coordination between different sectors. He said that only such integrated initiatives can build an inclusive and climate-resilient development framework.
The organizers said that joint initiatives of the government, development agencies, civil society, and youth can pave the way for sustainable solutions to the challenges of climate change.
At the end of the seminar, participants called for increasing the effective participation of youth in climate policymaking.
