The Bangladesh Chapter of the SAARC Journalists Forum (SJF) has congratulated Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on his party’s victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
In a congratulatory message, SJF Bangladesh Chapter President Nasir Al Mamun and General Secretary Shiabur Rahman (Shihab) also congratulated BNP leaders, workers and supporters for their success in the elections held on Thursday.
They said, “This victory is a reflection of Tarique Rahman’s uncompromising leadership in the struggle for the restoration of people’s voting rights and democracy. The people of the country have expressed full confidence in his leadership through the ballot.”
They expressed hope that the new government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership will work to consolidate democratic institutions, ensure freedom of expression, strengthen media freedom and achieve inclusive development.
The SJF leaders also expressed hope that the country’s new leadership would uphold Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, especially within the framework of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and enhance constructive engagement with neighboring countries for peace, stability, and shared prosperity in South Asia.
They wished the new government success and Tarique Rahman good health and long life.
In the congratulatory message, the SJF Bangladesh Chapter reiterated its commitment to responsible journalism, regional cooperation, and constructive dialogue in support of democratic values and sustainable development.
