Role of Shangrai festival in preserving heritage is immense: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has said that the role of Shangrai festival in preserving heritage is immense. Shangrai is not a festival; it is a unique symbol of the rich heritage, culture and communal harmony of the hilly region.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the ‘Chingmrong Shangrai Rilongpoe 2026’ organized in Chingmrong area of ​​Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district on Wednesday (April 15, 2026). At the beginning of the program, the minister participated in the colorful joyous procession organized on the occasion of ‘Maha: Shangrai Rilongpoe’ and announced the inauguration of this traditional festival of the Marma community.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dipen Dewan said that Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Such festivals are an integral part of our culture and tradition. The present government is working tirelessly to improve the quality of life of the people of the hilly region, quality education, improved healthcare and sustainable infrastructure. One of the government’s goals is to create a prosperous and stable society.

The festival was attended by the venerable Mahasthavira, the fourth Mahasangharaja, the Priyadarshi Mahasthavira Upasangharaja, the monks of various monasteries, dayak-dayika, upasika and journalists from print and electronic media.
