Desk Report:
The registration process for e-rickshaws in 13 city corporations across the country will commence tomorrow, Monday (November 2). State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam stated that no e-rickshaw will be permitted to operate on the roads without registration.
He shared this information while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday (November 1).
The State Minister explained that the registration process will be carried out in phases across the 13 city corporations. However, owners of e-rickshaws currently in operation need not be alarmed; both registered and unregistered vehicles will be allowed to continue operating for the time being.
Regarding registration fees, he noted that for e-rickshaws with a capacity of two passengers, the one-time registration fee has been set at 8,000 Taka, with an annual renewal fee of 4,000 Taka. For e-rickshaws with a capacity of four passengers, the one-time registration fee is 10,000 Taka, and the annual renewal fee is 5,000 Taka.
The State Minister further mentioned that to regulate the movement of e-rickshaws, a zone-based operational system will be implemented, specific routes will be designated, and a distinct color scheme will be assigned to these vehicles.
He added that an individual may register a maximum of five e-rickshaws—across one or more city corporations—linked to a single National Identity (NID) card.
The State Minister emphasized that no e-rickshaw will be allowed to operate without registration. It will be mandatory to install a speedometer in every e-rickshaw, and the maximum permitted speed for these vehicles has been set at 25 kilometers per hour.
These measures reflect a broader initiative to establish order on urban roads and regulate vehicular traffic through the registration, route management, and speed-limiting of e-rickshaws.
