The 28th meeting of the National Consumer Rights Protection Council was held this Sunday (January 19, 2025) morning at the meeting room of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate. Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the National Consumer Rights Protection Council, presided over the meeting.
Stressing the importance of making people aware of consumer rights, the Trade Advisor said that self-correction will come if the right leaflets are prepared and reached out to the stakeholders. If the consumer knows his rights, he will have a desire to get them.
The Advisor said that we are all consumers in our personal and family lives. To keep ourselves safe, we must ensure the proper implementation of the Consumer Rights Protection Act. He said that every person has a responsibility in society, and they need to be informed about that responsibility. He called for including the concept of increasing consumer rights and ethics in education programs, if necessary.
Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Commerce Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, Director General of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection Md. Abdul Alim Khan, Administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Md. Hafizur Rahman, General Secretary of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Md. Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, Director General of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) S. M. Ferdous Alam and representatives of the Department of Drug Administration spoke at the meeting.
