Desk Report:
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged police members to gain public trust and ensure that no innocent person is harassed. He said that crime control will be easier if the police build a relationship of trust with the public.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the police’s ‘Kalyan Parade’ organized on the occasion of Police Week at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital on Sunday (May 10, 2026).

The Prime Minister said, “The police administration is not a party. The police administration will be run according to statutory laws. It is definitely your responsibility to ensure that no innocent person is harassed.”
He said, “If the police can become a symbol of trust and security for the public, then that is the success of the police. The success of the police means the success of the government as well.”

Addressing the police members, the Prime Minister further said, “The job of the police is to suppress the wicked and nurture the good. The relationship between the police and the people should be one of trust and reliability. In case of any danger or calamity, the people should consider the police station as their reliable shelter.”
She said that the people are the owners of the state. When the common people go to the police station in danger, it is part of the police’s responsibility to ensure that they feel the ownership of the state through the behavior of the police.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the common people first come to the police station to get legal assistance and seek the help of the police. Therefore, humane and responsible behavior with the people must be ensured.
Stressing the need to develop a technology-based police system to meet new challenges emerging in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, she said that it has become essential to further expand the integrated use of modern technology, including the establishment of cyber police, artificial intelligence (AI), big data analysis, and other technologies.
He said that the government is taking effective steps in phases to control cybercrime, prevent financial fraud, use advanced technology to combat terrorism and transnational crimes, increase digital and forensic facilities, and ensure international standard training.
The Prime Minister said, “Humanity, justice, and national unity are our main strengths rather than the power of arms. Our path is not easy, but the goal is noble. We want to build a prosperous, self-reliant, democratic, safe, and humane Bangladesh.”
Salahuddin Ahmed, Ali Hossain Fakir, and other senior police officials were present at the event.
