Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that a decision will be taken to elevate Comilla to a new division based on the demands and needs of the people. He said, “If there is a demand from the people, Comilla will be a division.”
He said these things at a road meeting at Lakshmipur Bazar Ground in Barura Upazila of Comilla today (May 16, 2026). At that time, he reiterated his commitment to reconstruct the country and said, “First of all, the country—and the country belongs to everyone. The promise that has been made based on the mandate given by the people will be implemented.”
When the people present at the road meeting chanted the slogan ‘I want Comilla division’, he said that the matter will be implemented if everyone agrees.
He also said that the people voted on the basis of the plan that was presented to the people during the election. “We will implement the promise we made,” he added.
Local leaders and activists and a large number of common people were present at the meeting. The event also discussed the development of the Comilla region, administrative decentralization, and future plans.
