Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered to strengthen tree plantation program across the country. He also directed the concerned to take necessary measures to accelerate the progress of the 250 million tree plantation program in the next five years.
A meeting of the cell related to ‘250 million tree plantation in the next 5 years’ was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Division meeting room at the Secretariat on Wednesday (March 4, 2026) morning. The latest progress of the program was reviewed in the meeting and future action plans were discussed.
Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atiqur Rahman Rumon told BSS that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized on further strengthening the tree plantation program across the country. He said that the progress of the action plan for planting 250 million trees in five years was discussed in detail in the meeting.
He also said that tree seedlings will be collected from various private nurseries as well as government nurseries. These trees will be planted in various places across the country, including khas land, char areas, both banks of rivers, both sides of roads and highways, treeless areas of forests and courtyards of government institutions.
As part of the program, the issue of planting one tree per student and giving it the responsibility of maintaining it was also discussed with importance in the meeting.
Forest and Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintu, State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar and other senior officials concerned were present in the meeting.
