Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a tree plantation program in Gournadi, Barisal, as part of the government’s election pledge to strengthen environmental protection and climate resilience, ‘250 million tree plantations in five years’ program.

On Monday (July 13, 2026) morning, the Prime Minister participated in a tree plantation program organized on the banks of the newly excavated Sarikal-Batajor canal in Batajor Union of Gournadi Upazila of Barisal. During this, she inaugurated the program by planting coconut and neem tree saplings.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally planted a tree sapling with the slogan ‘Bangladesh first’. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan was present with him at the time. He also planted a tree sapling.

After the tree plantation, the Prime Minister said that there is no alternative to large-scale tree plantation to protect the environment, combat the negative effects of climate change and build a green Bangladesh. She urged every citizen of the country to come forward to plant trees.
Later, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman exchanged views with the beneficiaries of the ‘Family Card’ program, one of the government’s election promises to improve the overall quality of life of families through women’s empowerment.

During the exchange of views, she discussed the socio-economic development of the families benefiting from the Family Card, increasing women’s participation and various public welfare initiatives.
Senior officials of the local administration, political leaders and prominent figures of the area were present at the event.
