Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on everyone to play a responsible role from their respective positions to leave pollution-free rivers and a clean and livable environment for future generations.
The Prime Minister made this call at a review meeting organized on various related issues including pollution control of rivers around the capital Dhaka, waste removal, ensuring navigability of rivers and normal flow of water, and development of circular waterways.

The Prime Minister directed to take effective initiatives to quickly implement the plans adopted so far in the meeting. At the same time, she emphasized on ensuring proper coordination between the concerned ministries, departments and organizations and taking forward the activities.
The Prime Minister said that efforts should be made to leave pollution-free rivers and a livable environment not only for ourselves but also for the next generation. Along with government initiatives to protect rivers and the environment, every citizen should also play a role out of personal responsibility.
She said that it is not enough to just wait for government instructions to protect the environment. Everyone should come forward to protect rivers, water and the environment through responsible behavior and awareness from their respective positions.
The Prime Minister gave necessary directions to the concerned to control pollution and restore navigability of the rivers around the capital, as well as to ensure normal flow of water, strengthen waste management and speed up the implementation of the plans taken for the development of circular waterways.
She emphasized on further strengthening coordination among all the concerned ministries, departments and organizations and increasing the speed of implementation of the set plans.
The Prime Minister said, protecting rivers and the environment is not only the responsibility of the government; it is the responsibility of every citizen of the country and the interests of future generations. It is possible to build a clean, pollution-free and livable Bangladesh through collective efforts.
