Desk Report:
Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Information and Broadcasting and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that political parties’ election manifestos should have a clear roadmap for environmental protection and an effective plan for its implementation. She also mentioned that it is important to hold the elected government accountable for preventing environmental pollution.
She made these remarks as the chief guest in the fourth and final episode of the four-episode election-related program ‘Manifesto-Talk’ organized by Channel One at the Department of Environment in Agargaon, Dhaka on Saturday (January 24).
Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, “The generation that can carry out the July movement can also play a role in preventing all types of environmental pollution, including air pollution. The current generation is much more socially conscious. We expect specific goals and responsible roles from them.”
She also said that environmental protection is no longer an optional matter; it must be part of the political commitment. Sustainable development cannot be ensured if the election manifesto does not have clear guidelines for environmental protection.
Addressing the participants who came from different parts of the country, she said that a clear roadmap is necessary before taking up any development project. It is not possible to complete all the reforms in a country within one and a half years, but during this time some important work has already started and some project plans have been put forward. The people should keep an eye on the progress of these initiatives.
