Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, said that all political parties have agreed to ensure public participation in the implementation of the ‘July National Charter, 2025’ and to hold a referendum for their consent.
He made this statement while briefing journalists at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday (October 5, 2025) after the fourth day of discussions with the National Consensus Commission on ways to implement the July National Charter.
The members of the commission were Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor involved in the consensus-building process Monir Haider.
Stating that this is the first step of the political parties in implementing the July National Charter, he expressed hope that such consensus will be established among the political parties on other issues as well.
Professor Ali Riaz said that there is a practical consensus among the political parties that the legislative assembly that will be formed through the February elections and the reforms that that assembly will implement based on the July National Charter should be sustainable.
Representatives of 28 political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens Party (NCP), People’s Rights Council, People’s Solidarity, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Revolutionary Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party participated in the discussion.
