Police must work impartially: Home Affairs Adviser

Home Affairs and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that the police must work impartially in view of the 13th national election.

The advisor said these things while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of the election training program organized at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, the capital, on Sunday (September 09, 2025).

Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam BPM was present as special guest at the event, chaired by the Chief Advisor, along with Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, and Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In his speech, the advisor urged the law enforcement agencies not to work for any particular political party. He also directed the law enforcement agencies to try to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people through transparency.

While giving various directions to the administration and law enforcement, the advisor said that one should stay away from political parties. One should face everything through legal process with patience and a cool head. ‘The more transparent we are in our work, the more we will be able to gain trust from the general public’.

The Home Advisor expressed hope that the upcoming elections will be held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. He emphasized on setting a new example by forgetting the bad elections of the past. At the same time, he also mentioned the need to reduce corruption and drugs from the society.

Regarding Operation Devil Hunt, the Home Advisor said that even though Operation Devil Hunt is not over, its activities have not stopped. Every police station has a list of fascists and they are trying to destabilize the country. He also called for legal action to be taken against criminals released on bail. The advisor also directed to expedite the operation to recover looted/lost/illegal weapons from police stations.

The advisor said that permission for drugs, gambling and fairs will be banned. Extortion must be stopped on roads and transport, in the market. Extortionists must be arrested. So that the upcoming Durga Puja can be held without any hindrance. Like last year, we must be extremely vigilant this year too.

At the event, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury said that the final test of the new police structure that has been established after July-August will be the national election. Later, the advisor inaugurated the election training program.

It is worth noting that 1,50,000 police members will be trained through training on increasing the skills and capacity of the police to perform election duties professionally.
