PKSF launches ‘GREEN’ project for climate-resilient development

Desk Report:

To combat the adverse effects of climate change, build a safe and nutritious food system, and accelerate sustainable economic growth through the development of environmentally friendly entrepreneurship, the Rural Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has launched a new project titled ‘Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN)’.

PKSF Managing Director Md. Fazlul Quader presided over the inaugural ceremony held at PKSF Bhaban-1 in the capital on Thursday (July 30, 2026). PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr. Akand Mohammad Rafiqul Islam delivered a welcome speech at the ceremony, highlighting the context of the project. Deputy General Manager and Project Coordinator Md. Habibur Rahman presented various aspects of the project. In addition, Deputy Managing Directors AQM Golam Maula, Md. Moshiar Rahman and Muhammad Hasan Khaled spoke about the various programs of PKSF.

PKSF said that more than 258,000 families in the country, including haor, coastal, barendra and char areas, will directly benefit from this project, which will be implemented from 2026 to 2031. The project will work on climate-resilient food systems, green technology, sustainable entrepreneurship development, inclusive financial services and institutional capacity building of partner organizations, giving priority to communities affected by climate change, women, youth, small ethnic groups, socially marginalized communities and small entrepreneurs.

In the project presentation, it was informed that the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will finance 70 million US dollars in this project, worth a total of 211.7 million US dollars. The rest will be financed by PKSF and its partner organizations. According to those concerned, this joint investment will make a significant contribution to the country’s climate-resilient agriculture, environmentally friendly initiatives and nutrition development.

PKSF Managing Director Md. Fazlul Quader said that the GREEN project will work to transform the microenterprise sector into a driver of inclusive growth by moving away from the conventional concept of microfinance and through growth-based financing. He said that special emphasis will be given to digital financing, agro-ecological agriculture, agro-based small enterprises, local agro-processing, value addition to agricultural products, safe and nutritious food systems, use of solar energy and the expansion of the circular economy. He also mentioned that the potential of the creative economy and blue economy will also be utilized.

In the open discussion of the event, the executive heads and representatives of the partner organizations highlighted various recommendations such as cottage industry-based training and market linkages for coastal women, technology-based solutions to reduce industrial pollution and carbon emissions, introduction of artificial intelligence-based early warning systems in haor areas, and formation of insurance and risk funds for farmers.

According to PKSF, the GREEN project will play an important role in addressing the risks of climate change, expanding environmentally friendly economic activities, creating employment, and improving the quality of life of the country’s marginalized communities.
