‘New Bangladesh’ will be a non-discriminatory, transparent and humane state: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Staff Correspondent:

Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has outlined a far-reaching vision in the political, economic and social fields to build a ‘New Bangladesh’. He said that the Bangladesh of the future will be a non-discriminatory, transparent and humane state—where instead of division, the politics of unity, hope and healing will be established.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the Jamaat-e-Islami Policy Summit-2026 organized at a hotel in the capital today, Tuesday (January 20, 2026). The summit, which began at 9 am with the recitation of the Holy Quran, was attended by prominent thinkers, policymakers, diplomatic representatives, political leaders, businessmen, professionals and senior media figures.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that Jamaat-e-Islami believes in a state system where a modern market economy will be effective, the administration will be accountable and every citizen will get equal opportunities regardless of religion, caste and gender. He said, “No development can be sustainable without the foundation of justice and morality.”

Regarding women’s empowerment, he said that among the political parties in South Asia, the participation of women in Jamaat-e-Islami is significant. Currently, about 43 percent of the total members of the party are women. He expressed his firm belief that equal rights of women in education from primary to university will be ensured in the new Bangladesh and no discrimination in social, economic and political fields will be tolerated.

Describing the young generation as the main driving force of the country’s growth, the Jamaat Amir said that youth employment will get the highest priority in the new governance system. He said that only a working and skilled young society can take a country forward on the path of sustainable development.

Promising to build a modern welfare state, he said that social security will be ensured along with a transparent market economy. Addressing international investors, he said that an open and transparent investment environment will be created in the new Bangladesh. At the same time, he said that special importance will be given to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and foreign direct investment (FDI) in industrialization.

Stating a strict stance against corruption, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that state resources will not be allowed to be used for personal or party interests in any way. He said that corruption, looting and nepotism weaken the state from within, and real development is not possible unless transparency is ensured according to international standards.

At this time, he also promised to modernize the agricultural sector, increase productivity and ensure food security.

Stating that protecting the rights of minorities is not only a political responsibility, but also a religious duty, the Jamaat Amir said that Jamaat-e-Islami is committed to ensuring the security and rights of every citizen, regardless of race, religion or gender.

In the last part of his speech, he expressed his determination to make Bangladesh a reliable partner state at the regional and global levels and called for building a united country by avoiding the politics of division.
