National Consensus Commission meeting held

A meeting of the National Consensus Commission was held under the leadership of Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday (11 September 2025) evening.

The two-hour meeting discussed in detail the Consensus Commission’s proposals for the implementation of the July Charter and the proposals of the political parties in this regard.

The commission members said that the commission will submit its report to the interim government very soon.

The National Consensus Commission will meet again with the political parties on Sunday (14 September) to take this issue forward.

The proposals of the six-member committee formed to implement the July Charter were also highlighted in the meeting.

Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said at the meeting, “One of the three main mandates of the current interim government is reform. Therefore, the issue of the July Charter must be viewed with equal importance like elections and justice.”

He said, “The national election to be held next February is not just a general election, it is a foundational election through which the path of Bangladesh’s future will be determined.”

He said, “Therefore, keeping the election in mind, we must finalize the fundamental reforms. At the same time, we must keep in mind that we have no alternative to holding elections in the first half of February.”

On behalf of the commission, Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, Commission members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider were present in the meeting.

On the other hand, advisors to the interim government Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Asif Nazrul, Syeda Rizwana Hasan and National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman were present.
