Minister urges Grameenphone to address customer concerns over call drops, network quality and package prices

Desk Report:

Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has urged mobile operators including Grameenphone to take effective initiatives to address customer concerns over call drops, poor network quality and the price of voice and data packages on mobile phones.

He made this call as the chief guest at the inauguration of the “Digital Inclusion for Marginalized Communities – Phase II” program organized by Grameenphone at Sheraton Dhaka in Banani, the capital, on Thursday (July 30, 2026).

The minister said that the benefits of digital technology must be reached to every citizen of the country. It is important to ensure that women, youth, persons with disabilities, transgender communities and other marginalized communities can equally participate in the digital transformation of Bangladesh and enjoy its benefits.

He said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working relentlessly to expand digital connectivity across the country. The government is emphasizing on meaningful digital inclusion, digital literacy and building skilled human resources to achieve the goal of making Bangladesh a one trillion US dollar economy by 2034.

Fakir Mahbub Anam called for further expansion of telecommunication services in remote and underprivileged areas of the country and said that no region should be left behind in the journey of digital transformation. Accessible and quality communication services are very important for inclusive development and improving the quality of life of people.

He told mobile operators that along with business growth, the expectations and interests of customers should also be given equal importance. Ensuring affordable, uninterrupted and quality services for customers should be the main priority of the service providers.

At the end of the program, the minister officially inaugurated Grameenphone’s “Digital Inclusion for Marginalized Communities – Phase II” program.

Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yasir Azman, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General (Retd) Md. Emdad ul Bari, senior government officials, representatives of the private sector, representatives of development cooperation agencies and other stakeholders were present at the event.
