Korea’s interest in strengthening cooperation in waste management and circular economy in Bangladesh

Desk Report:

South Korea has expressed interest in expanding cooperation in implementing modern waste management, resource circulation and circular economy in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday (July 15, 2026), a high-level Korean delegation led by Mr. Lee Myung-hwan, Chairman of the Korea Resource Circulation Agency (KORA), paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Abdul Awal Mintu, at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

During the meeting, various issues related to the development of the resource circulation system in Bangladesh, institutional and technical support for the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, modernization of waste management systems, development of recycling infrastructure and enhancement of skills and capacity in the relevant sectors were discussed in detail.

In the meeting, Mr. KORA Chairman Lee Myung-hwan said that South Korea has achieved significant success in waste management and implementation of circular economy. They are sincerely interested in utilizing Korea’s technical experience and expertise in developing Bangladesh’s environmental protection, sustainable waste management and recycling sectors.

Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo highlighted the importance of international cooperation to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable waste management in Bangladesh. He welcomed Korea’s technical assistance, experience exchange and capacity development initiatives in this sector.

Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Fahmida Khanam was present at the meeting.
