Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that every murder committed in the anti-fascist movement will be ensured in a transparent, impartial and credible manner by following the due process of law.
He said that the current government attaches utmost importance to establishing the rule of law. For this purpose, it has been decided to name at least one educational or public welfare institution in their respective areas in memory of the martyrs and victims of disappearances and murders in the past 17 years and the July Uprising.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled ‘July 36’ after the formal inauguration of the newly built July Uprising Memorial Museum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) morning.
The Prime Minister said that the expectation of the democracy-loving people of the country is that the July Uprising Memorial Museum will not be a place to establish a single political commentary of any individual, party or group. She said, “The 2024 mass uprising is not of a single individual, group or party; the great heroes of this uprising are the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh.”
She also said that this museum will showcase the history of the country’s struggle, sacrifice, courage, pain and democratic aspirations to future generations. At the same time, it will also reveal the true face of the ousted fascist forces to the new generation.
The Prime Minister said that the ‘Special Committee on Constitutional Amendments’ formed in the National Parliament has already started working to implement the aspirations of the referendum. She said that the goal of the current government is to build a self-reliant, prosperous, secure and democratic Bangladesh through country reconstruction and in this way the dream of the martyrs of July will be realized.
At the end of her speech, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Army for standing by the people during the July mass uprising. At the same time, expressing deep condolences to the family members of the martyrs, she said, “Bangladesh will never again become a fascist state.”
Ministry of Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaneez Maula delivered a welcome speech at the event. Later, Fatima Tuz Johra, mother of Shaheed Abdullah bin Zahid in the July Uprising, Sanjida Khan Dipti, mother of Shaheed Shahriar Khan Anas, and July fighter Nishat Tabassum Prati shared emotional memories.
Former Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ahmed Azam Khan, State Minister for Culture Ali Nawaz Mahmud Khayyam, and Prime Minister’s Information and Cultural Affairs Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman spoke as special guests at the event presided over by Minister of Culture Nitai Roy Chowdhury.
BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Prime Minister’s Advisor and Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and the Prime Minister’s daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman were present at the event.
In addition, representatives of various ministries and departments, members of parliament, high-ranking government officials, diplomats, intellectuals, educationists, cultural figures, July fighters, members of martyred families, political figures, media workers and prominent people from different classes and professions participated in the event.
